The Order of the Spark Continued

This leader doesn’t say much but does much. This individual attends all meetings in and outside of the currently registered position. This person has attended each training session recommended and continues seek ways in which to become more involved. The more Scouting this person is seen doing, the more Scouting one can see this person enjoying. This leader is known to say yes to Scouting weeks in advance and down to just hours in advance. Every new item that comes to this individual is met the same as all the others, and that response is a can do, positive one. This person listens intensely and is a joy to work with. This leader is one of those Scouters who truly makes you proud he is a member of BSA. I am honored to announce the Seminole District Order of the Spark 2006 recognition goes to Tracy Linhart of the District Commissioner Service Corps.

======================================================

This leader is well liked by the Scouts, and respected by fellow leaders. This individual was recently recruited to a new committee, grasped the needs of the district and found a way to support the program. In a short time, this person recruited a core staff, and continues to communicate enthusiasm for the Scouting. Every new item that this new position brings is met the same as all the others, and that response is a can do, positive one. This leader’s manners in Scouting are one of professionalism and always appear in a Class A uniform with proper insignia. When you are greeted, a smile always appears. This person listens to what you have to share with great interest. This leader is one of those Scouters who truly makes you proud he is a member of BSA. I am honored to announce the Seminole District Order of the Spark 2006 recognition goes to Richard Guertin, a Seminole District Member at Large and Skipper of Ship 814.

The Order of the Spark Continued

This leader is fondly remembered the first time attending roundtable. This individual arrived early and unfamiliar with how the program ran but that didn’t stop person from quickly asking each person, who seemed to know what they were doing, “what needs to be done, how can I help?” The second, third and each following time following, the same thing happens, this person is there early and helps out. This leadership style is one of servant leadership and was contagious at a recent district event. This person joined in and helped staff members do whatever was needed, whenever it was needed. From helping adults with their questions to keeping staffers supplied with coffee, this Scouter was a real asset to the program. This leader serves as a Cub Scout Pack Committee Chairman and District Member at Large. I am honored to announce the Seminole District Order of the Spark 2006 recognition goes to Bob Hendry of Cub Scout Pack 492.

==============================================================

This leader, a past Cub Scout leader, clearly enjoyed and took pride in each Scout’s achievement. When attending roundtable meeting, this individual’s positive, “I’m glad you are here” attitude is apparent to all at. This leader greets each person with Scout spirit and offers any and all assistance to roundtable staff members. Due to heavy work schedules this person isn’t able to attend roundtable as often as in the past, and is missed. This leader however, has recently gone to great expense of personal time and money with a trailer renovation for a Boy Scout troop. His fellow leaders there are very grateful for his expertise and enthusiasm. This Scouter positively impacts our youth with the time, energy and other commitments one needs to provide while serving as a day camp staff member for several years and again this year. I am honored to announce the Seminole District Order of the Spark 2006 recognition goes to Robert Walker of Boy Scout Troop 118.

The Order of the Spark Continued

From the first conversation, and through all that follows, one can easily see this leader enjoys Scouting. This individual is a leader who continually seeks ways to enhance program for both youth and adults. This person has been known to recruit merit badge counselors to our district from professionals in the field. This leader sings the praises of fellow leaders at every opportunity. It is clear this individual enjoys what service can be given and wishes to do more. This person’s profession makes it very difficult to attend district committee meetings and roundtable meetings, but that doesn’t stop this person from contributing. Emails are as pleasant as phone conversations. This person keeps current with district duties. This leader’s can do Scout spirit is contagious and is one of those Scouters who truly makes you proud she is a member of BSA. I am honored to announce the Seminole District Order of the Spark 2006 recognition goes to Theresa Hood of Cub Scout Pack and Boy Scout Troop 441.

District Scouter of the Award

The Seminole District Scouter of the Year recognition is intended to recognize a deserving Scouter who has contributed exceptional leadership abilities and performed service to others beyond their primary registered position. This recognition is not intended to be awarded based on popularity. It is not appropriate to nominate or award a second time to a Scouter who has already received this award. As this recognition is not as prestigious as the nationally sponsored “District Award of Merit" recognition, it will be awarded before the District Award of Merit presentation at Seminole District’s annual recognition dinner.

==============================================================

One can always count on this person to attend a meeting or training unless of course work schedule prohibits it. This person asks questions that quickly let you know this individual understands and is seeking a way in which to become more involved. This leader’s passion for the Scouting program and how it can enhance youth and adult lives is truly one that is exhibited often. Participating in a program event would come a close second. This individual understands the values based education BSA offers and is a user of it for self, family and all who come in contact. Just as many award recipients previously recognized this evening, the more Scouting you see this individual doing, the more Scouting you see being enjoyed. This person’s can do Scout spirit is contagious, evident with the organization a new chartered unit. This leader’s personal growth in Scouting has truly been a joy to witness. This individual is like a sponge, tell this person about this in Scouting and she’s there, tell her about that in Scouting and in no time she’s there too. I am honored to announce the Seminole District Scouter of the Year 2006 recognition goes to Jenifer Williams of a Cub Scout Pack and District Commissioner Service Corps.

It is not appropriate to nominate a Scouter who has already received this award. Additionally, nominees’ attitudes toward and cooperation with the district and/or council is taken into consideration. ==============================================================

This leader began his Scouting career as a youth. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. This Scout’s past involvement with the Order of the Arrow is extensive and not to be shadowed by his current position and responsibilities. As a Scout Camp staff member this person gained experiences of cheerful service that has formulated his attitude to do a good turn daily. It is his involvement with several community service projects that one can easily see this individual’s Scout spirit. Habitat for Humanity, the Humane Society, Walk of Life and the FSU 2010 planning group are just a few beneficiaries of this leader’s involvement outside of Scouting. I am honored to announce one of Seminole District’s District Award of Merit recipients, Class of 2006 recognition goes to Alex Gomez of Boy Scout Troop 492.

I am honored to announce Seminole District’s Silver Beaver Award recipient, Class of 2006 Jim Blanchard of Boy Scout Troop 317 and a District Member at Large.

The James E. West Fellowship Award

James E. West was a remarkable man. From humble beginnings as an orphan who was hospitalized for over two years and confined to a wheelchair for much of his life, he became a nationally recognized champion of children’s issues. A man of vision, originality and tireless dedication, we served as the first Chief Scout Executive of Boy Scouts of America for over 30 years.

The West Fellowship Award recognizes gifts of $1,000 or more in cash or marketable securities made to a council endowment fund in addition to the donor’s annual Friends of Scouting support. If an institution is “the lengthened showdown of one man,” it is indeed fitting that the Boy Scouts of America should honor James E. West’s extraordinary contributions to Scouting in such a significant manner.

Will any James E. West Fellows of past years, who are present this evening, please stand to be recognized.

Seminole District’s most recent James E. West Fellowship Award recipient is District Chairman, Nadine Yawn.
